The impressive combination of Izzy Taylor & Monkeying Around have good reason to be celebrating after winning the CCI4*S British Open Championships at Hambro Sport Horses Burgham International Horse Trials between 28th July and 1st August.
Winning on a fantastic score of just 22.3 in the dressage with no jumping penalties in a strong class of 126 competitors, Izzy and Monkeying Around, jointly owned by Izzy and Mark Sartori were delighted to be crowned the champions and are hoping this will stand them in good stead with the selectors for the forthcoming European Championships.
The National Championships have a long and distinguished history and whilst normally held at Gatcombe Park, home of the Festival of British Eventing and also home of the Princess Royal, 2021 saw them held at Burgham International Horse Trials in Northumberland instead.
Izzy commented , “It is a real honour to be British Open Champion and it was fantastic of Burgham to step in to host the championships after Gatcombe cancelled this year. As ever at Burgham, the ground and the courses were very good and it is one of my favourite events. Monkeying Around is a very, very good horse who has been a consistent winner for a long time. He genuinely finds all three phases easy”.
